Volvo – Electric EX30 Richard Livsey, February 20, 2024February 20, 2024 Auto review If you’re as ancient as me, you’ll remember the old school Volvo – big and clunky, a tank of the car world. Well, good news, things have changed. Volvo is now all about style, while keeping the strength and robustness of their old style. We, at Man5hit, bring you the Volvo EX30, where innovation meets elegance. We’ll explore how Volvo has cemented their position in the electric car market. Strap on your seat belts as we review this cutting-edge SUV. Before we go into the details of the EX30, let’s put aside our brief “pisstake” of the old Volvo and take a moment to appreciate their legacy of excellence, if not clunky, automotive engineering. With a history rooted in safety and innovation, Volvo has consistently produced very reliable motors. And now, with the EX30, they’re leading the charge into a greener, more sustainable future. From the moment you lay eyes on the Volvo EX30, it’s clear that this is no ordinary SUV. With its sleek, aerodynamic profile, the EX30 commands attention on the road. But it’s not just about looks – the EX30 is packed with features designed to enhance your driving experience. Priced affordably starting from £33,795, the Volvo EX30 offers a refined driving experience, maintaining decent levels of “silence”, even at higher speeds. Despite subtle choppiness at lower speeds, the EX30 remains composed, falling back on its naturally weighted steering – power steering to a new level! In our opinion, it outperforms rivals such as the Hyundai Kona Electric and the Kia Niro EV. The Volvo EX30 lineup offers two battery options: a 49kWh LFP battery for the entry-level model with a range of 200 miles and a 64kWh NMC battery for the Single Motor Extended Range version with a range of 275 miles. While the LFP battery may last longer, it has lower energy density compared to NMC batteries, resulting in shorter range capabilities, but anything around the 200 miles mark is respectable. Regarding charging speeds, the smaller battery can reach a maximum charging rate of up to 134kW, taking 26 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% capacity. The larger battery, with a maximum rate of 153kW, requires just two minutes more if a compatible charger is available. These are very competitive figures in the electric car market, and with plenty of charging points being installed around the country, the worry of running out of power is a thing of the past. Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by a spacious and luxurious interior, adorned with premium materials and cutting-edge technology. The EX30 comes equipped with Google co-developed tech, ensuring excellent connectivity and intuitive controls at your fingertips. Whether you’re navigating city streets or embarking on a cross-country adventure, the EX30’s advanced infotainment system and fast-charging capabilities ensure that you stay connected and powered up wherever you go. The EX30 isn’t just about style and technology – it’s also a powerhouse on the road, boasting an impressive electric motor generating 268bhp. In the 49kWh version, the 0-60mph time is a respectable 5.7 seconds, while the 64kWh model, due to slightly different tuning, manages 5.3 seconds – ensuring a thrilling yet efficient driving experience. Priced significantly lower than its mainstream competitors, the Volvo EX30 offers a premium electric SUV experience. It features a polished driving experience, luxurious interior, and a generous array of cool features such as heated front seats and adaptive cruise control. This is why we at Man5hit highly recommend the Volvo EX30. Auto
