Skullcandy – Hesh Evo Headphones Richard Livsey, April 3, 2024April 4, 2024 RRP£66.99ConnectivityWireless/Bluetooth Duration after charge36 hours DurabilitySturdy and waterproof designWeight213g Ok, earbuds are pretty cool, but if you’re like me and keep losing them, it’s good to have other options. Being without portable music is pretty shit, not Man5hit, so I am looking for new headphones and trying to find quality at an affordable price range. Personally, I am all about sound quality and comfort, not too fussed about aesthetics, just give me some bass! Well, we had a look at what Skullcandy had to offer, and this is our opinion. Skullcandy, through their Hesh Evo headphones, priced at £69.99, provide a decent set of over-ear wireless design with comfort as a major selling point, which is a good start! Available in black, blue/white, or grey, these headphones feature a circumaural design with memory foam earpads and a leather-like material on the headband. This design ensures a comfortable and secure fit, great for prolonged use, so no excuse not to have a decent-sized gym sesh now! The right earcup houses a control panel with a multifunction button for playback, call management, and voice assistants, along with separate volume and track navigation buttons. While this setup sounds great, the shared volume and track navigation button can lead to unintentional track changes. Charging is done through a USB-C port located on the earcup, and the headphones also include an audio jack for passive listening. Skullcandy estimates the battery life to be around 36 hours, although this can vary depending on usage. Internally, powerful 40mm drivers and impressive acoustics deliver refined audio quality that has been improved over four generations. The clear, rich sound rivals that of more expensive headphones, making them a surprisingly affordable option. In terms of audio performance, the Hesh Evo headphones offer a bass-forward sound signature. On tracks with intense sub-bass content, they deliver powerful low-frequency response without distortion. However, the high-mids lack the crispness and definition one might expect, resulting in a sound profile that, while not subpar, fails to stand out. I’m into heavy music, so I can live with this! The built-in microphone offers clear intelligibility, ensuring voice calls are free from Bluetooth distortion. However, the lack of support for high-quality Bluetooth codecs like AAC or AptX is a notable drawback. Hesh Evo is engineered with just the right amount of added features to make your life a little easier. Along with outstanding sound, they feature built-in Tile finding technology. If you ever misplace your headphones, you can easily “ring” them from the Tile App. So what might have seemed lost is now quickly found. Personally, this is a good feature as, previously mentioned, I’m pretty good at losing things. The Skullcandy Hesh Evo headphones offer comfort, a bass-heavy sound profile, and a range of added features at an affordable price point. While they are suitable for casual listeners, they fall short in terms of advanced features and, arguably, audio performance compared to similarly priced alternatives such as the Jabra Elite 45h and Sennheiser HD 450BT, which provide EQ customisation and superior sound quality. This is fairly subjective though, and in our opinion, if you’re a music enthusiast or simply looking for a reliable everyday headphone, the Hesh Evo offers a combination of comfort, sound quality, and added features to enhance your listening experience.
