Man5hit guide to must watch TV series Richard Livsey, January 31, 2024February 1, 2024 Game of Thrones: Release date21th July 2011NetworkHBOWhere to watch?Sky Atlantic, Amazon Prime GenreAction/AdventureMan5hit Rating We’re almost reluctant to put Game of Thrones (GOT) on our list, given the writers’ mess up in season 8! It took a rewatch to remember how amazing season 1-7 were and why it became such a cult classic. The way GOT embraces a unique form of storytelling, with multiple narratives unfolding simultaneously, truly keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. With clever plot twists, like the brutal Red Wedding, makes it an incredible piece of television, with a ‘WTF’ factor. Despite the disappointment of season 8, Game of Thrones had many positives. Along with great character representation and excellent acting, it looked fantastic ; the camera work perfectly captured the vast array of landscapes across the Seven Kingdoms – from the icy expanse of the North to the warm and vibrant cities in Essos. Breaking Bad: Release date20th January 2008NetworkAMCWhere to watch?Netflix, Apple,TV, Amazon PrimeGenreCrime DramaMan5hit Rating At Man5hit, we believe Breaking Bad to be the best TV series ever made. We know it’s quite a statement, but the way the story unfolds, showcasing the rise and fall of Walter White from a mild-mannered chemistry teacher to a methamphetamine kingpin, is something special. The show’s intensity peaks with moments like Jane’s demise, from a heroin overdose (that Walter White could have prevented), and the explosive “I am the one who knocks” revelation, from Walter. Breaking Bad is applauded for its tight storytelling, excellent character development, and its ability to make the audience reassess their moral compass. Feel free to watch multiple times; we have! Boardwalk Empire: Release date1st Feburary 2011NetworkHBOWhere to watch? Now, Prime Video, Sky AtlanticGenreThrillerMan5hit Rating Boardwalk Empire provides the history lesson many of us desired in school, showcasing the glamour and grit of the Prohibition era, whilst being informative on the subject. Through the Story of the lead character, Nucky Thompson, the show adeptly portrays the intricate web of political maneuvering and criminal enterprises in Atlantic City, skillfully blending real-life figures like Al Capone with fictional characters. Despite facing criticism for pacing, Boardwalk Empire compensates with memorable moments, such as the violent and unexpected death of Jimmy Darmody…..reminding the audience that patience is a virtue. South Park: Release date28th March 1998NetworkComedy CentralWhere to watch?Sky, Amazon Prime, Pramount PlusGenreComedyMan5hit Rating South Park has firmly established itself in animated comedy, challenging societal norms and pushing boundaries for over two decades. Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the show’s crude animation style contrasts with its sharp wit, offering a satirical take on current events, pop culture, politics – no holds barred! The central quartet of characters—Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny—serves as conduits for the show’s unabashed social commentary. South Park is unapologetic in its humour, fearlessly exploring taboo subjects and often venturing into controversial territory. Through an impressive 26 seasons, South Park continues to break down barriers and more is to be expected. In 2021, South Park Studios made an agreement with ViacomCBS, securing the show’s renewal for up to season 30 and granting the production of 14 extra films. Therefore South Park will be with us until at least 2027 and we at Man5hit couldn’t be happier! Film/Entertainment Uncategorized
