The Algarve is known as a premier golfing destination, boasting an impressive collection of approx 50 courses set amidst breathtaking landscapes and offering captivating views of the sea. The Algarves mild climate year-round is good news for golfers as they can get a round in throughout the year. The central region, stretching from Vilamoura to Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, provides an exceptional golfing experience, blending challenging links and scenic fairways complemented by dramatic elements such as sea-cliffs, tranquil lakes, and strategic bunkers. A standout highlight is Pine Cliffs’ hole 6, where players can take on the challenge of hitting over the beach, adding an unforgettable memory to tell your mates back home. Prices for golfing in the Algarve vary depending on factors such as the course’s prestige, location, and facilities, with a range of options available to suit different budgets. See you guys there! Dolomites – Hiking This is personal! Through Covid and then an Achilles injury, I had to postpone my Dolomites holiday twice — guys, look after your feet! Enough about me…..let’s chat about Hiking the Dolomites. The majestic Dolomites, where do we start? Well, if you want adventure and history in breathtaking beauty, then look no further. These iconic peaks, born out of ancient geological processes, offer more than just stunning vistas. Originating during World War I, the via ferrata routes crisscrossing these mountains not only provide exhilarating climbs but also unveil remnants of military infrastructure, offering a unique glimpse into the region’s past. Ascend to heights of 3,000+ meters along these protected paths; climbing, with the use of iron cables, steps, or ladders embedded into the natural rock formations. For the complete Dolomites experience, consider embarking on a multi-day trek, spending nights in rustic mountain huts or camp amidst the serenity of the Dolomite landscape. The best time to hike in the Dolomites is typically from late spring to early autumn when the weather is mild and the trails are free from snow, allowing for safe and enjoyable trekking experiences. Watch this space; I’ll one day climb these mountains and write about it.
