Tekken 8 Richard Livsey, January 25, 2024January 26, 2024 Computer game review: Release date24th July 2023DeveloperBandai Namco StudiosModeSingle player/MultiplayerPlatformPlaystation 5, Xbox X and S, WindowsMan5hit Rating Tekken 8 doesn’t just carry the weight of its legacy; it introduces significant changes, redefining the classic fighting experience. Bandai Namco wisely retains the core mechanics that made Tekken great, but the introduction of recoverable health and the Heat system, brings a refreshing twist. Recoverable health prompts players to stay on the offensive, injecting a newfound intensity into matches, challenging the traditionally defensive nature of Tekken. The Heat system complements this shift seamlessly. Starting each round with a full Heat bar adds layers to the decision-making process – press the advantage or wait for a chance to recover health. It transforms each round into a dynamic strategic dance, offering players a wealth of options to consider. While the offensive pressure from characters like Hwoarang and the Mishima family might seem daunting, Heat serves as a powerful mediator . It not only enhances offensive capabilities but also smooths the entry for beginners, levelling the playing field. Tekken 8’s training tools are spot on; featuring Arcade Quest mode, an integrated replay system, and Special Style for beginners. The new characters, Victor, Azucena, and Reina, add depth to the roster, each bringing a unique flavor to the game. But to be honest we, at Man5hit, arnt interested in new characters, all about the old school for us! Single-player content is robust, with an engaging story mode; containing character endings, and new modes (like Arcade Quest and Super Ghost Battle. )The Jukebox, allowing customisation of music, is a winner as always good to choose the music you want. Online play is a significant improvement over Tekken 7, with cross-play functionality, and the Tekken Fight Lounge acting as a social hub. While the inability to spectate matches in custom rooms is a minor drawback, but it doesn’t overshadow the overall positive online experience. Tekken 8 stands as a remarkable entry in the series. With thoughtful adjustments to classic framework; through a decent proportion of offline content, compelling characters, improved online play, and a gripping continuation of the Mishima saga. With all this in mind we definitely approve this with a high “Man5hit” 5 and it paves the way for the franchise’s future. Computer games
